Dwayne Haskins is physically ready to be an NFL quarterback

The future outlook for rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins has been a roller coaster.

That is not to say that his eventual level of production has ever been in doubt, but the time period for him to finally produce has been floated a million ways in the media.

Will the Washington Redskins deploy their newest gun-slinger in Week 1 of the 2019 season, or will they give the nod to veteran signal-caller Case Keenum? At what point do they hand the controls to Haskins? What if Keenum starts the season and proves to be highly competent?

There are endless possibilities for how the next several months will play out for the Redskins, but Washington Post writer Kareem Copeland seems to have an idea of what could happen.

The No. 15 pick is physically ready. There’s no question about that. Haskins stepped onto the field at Redskins Park as the most physically blessed quarterback on the roster. The 6-foot-3, 231-pounder showed off the big arm that scouts raved about leading into the draft and seemed more mobile than expected coming out of Ohio State. He performed well early in OTAs but showed more rookie inconsistencies when most of the roster arrived for mandatory minicamp.

To Copeland, the biggest factor that will eventually determine the QB competition in Washington is knowledge and decision making. As a young player, Haskins is starting with a distinct disadvantage when it comes to learning an NFL offense, as compared to Keenum, who is currently learning his fifth NFL offense.

Haskins has all of the physical features of a dominant QB in the league. His mind may still need some work, but there is plenty of time between now and September.
