The Netherlands hit a new record in daily coronavirus cases, passing more than 7,500 infections in 24 hours, data released on Thursday showed.

The number of confirmed cases reached 7,791, the National Institute for Public Health data showed.

The Netherlands went into what the government has called a "partial lockdown" on Thursday in an attempt to slow infections in one of the worst hit countries in Europe's second COVID-19 wave.
