Dungiven police charge man with "arson endangering life with intent" following house fire

A man is to appear in court on charges of "arson endangering life with intent" following a Co Derry house fire.

The 58-year-old is due before magistrates in Coleraine today (Monday, January 6).

Firefighters were called to the home of a 40-year-old woman in Ard na Smoll, Dungiven at 11.40pm on Friday night following reports of a blaze.

It is understood she was out at the time.

Police said on Saturday no one was injured but the property suffered significant damage.

A PSNI spokesperson added today: "Detectives investigating a fire at a house in Ard na Smoll, Dungiven on Friday 3rd January, have charged a 58-year-old man with arson endangering life with intent.

"He is due to appear at Coleraine MC on Monday 6 January. As is normal procedure all charges are reviewed by the PPS."
