A further five people in Dumfries and Galloway have tested positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

It takes the number of positive tests in the region since the start of the pandemic to 1,223.

Of those, 80 have been in December with 29 in the past week.

Across Scotland, there were 689 positive cases announced today, taking the tally to 108,438.

There are currently 1,031 people in hospital with 49 in intensive care.

A further 38 people have died, with the national toll now at 4,173.

The coronavirus restrictions are due to be relaxed over the festive period, however the four UK nations have been taking part in discussions over whether that should remain the case.
