Dumfries and Galloway coronavirus figures for Tuesday, January 9

A further 35 people in Dumfries and Galloway have tested positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

It takes the total since the pandemic began to 3,234, with 1,529 this year.

There are currently 70 people in hospital, up one from yesterday. 15 people are intensive care.

There were a further 1,165 cases across Scotland, taking the national figure to 164,927.

There are 1,989 people in hospital and 150 in intensive care.

Sadly, a further 71 people have died, taking the Scottish figure to 5,376.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is due to address Holyrood shortly on the matter of whether the current restrictions - due to last until the end of the month - will be extended.

An announcement is also extended on whether school pupils will return to classes at the start of February.
