Dumbarton defender Rico Quitongo aims for Aberdeen Scottish Cup revenge

Dumbarton defender Rico Quitongo hopes that home advantage can help the Sons gain revenge on Aberdeen for their Scottish Cup defeat last January.

And the full-back has his own reason to be gunning for the Dons after he conceded a disputed 86th-minute penalty (right)the last time the teams met which allowed the Premiership side to secure a 1-0 win.

Rico, who has only just returned from injury, said: “I worked my pan in over lockdown and was fine until the final Thursday before we started back when I felt a little niggle which was really frustrating.

“Everybody wants to play the Aberdeen game though. It’s a big cup tie.

“We played really well up there last year and then my mistake cost the team.

“But we’ve learnt from that and it should be a good game plus it’s on our own turf this time so that’s something we’ll have to use to our advantage.

“I’d like to think that the pitch here is a wee bit narrower than Pittodrie so we need to use that to our advantage and be nice and tight. It will be a hard game but if we sit in and work as a unit as we did last year then anything can happen.

“It should be a really good cup tie.”

The game is live on BBC 1 Scotland this today (Saturday), with kick-off at 12.15pm.
