The one thing that Derrick Henry, Christian McCaffrey, Alvin Kamara, Dalvin Cook, Ezekiel Elliott, Saquon Barkley and the other top running backs in the NFL have in common is their ability to play all three down on offense while producing a maximum workload in the process.
They are all 30+ touch guys for their respective offenses and Miles Sanders is hoping to take that step as a running back this season. Sanders has been touting himself as a potential “NFL MVP” and during a Friday zoom meeting, Eagles running back coach Duce Staley hinted at giving Sanders the touches to make such an accomplishment happen.
“I’m excited about him handling the full load. I don’t see Miles as a guy you have to monitor his touches. … His ability to make people miss makes the risk of a heavy workload less. I think you put him & you let him go.”
Sanders is looking to take the next step as a rusher, but he compares well with Christian McCaffrey and he can come near the Panthers stars 107 receptions for 867 yards and six touchdowns as a second-year player, the Eagles could make another deep playoff run.
Doug Pederson has never had a 1,000 rusher in his stint as Eagles head coach, but it appears Miles Sanders will get every opportunity to join his peers on the top running back tier.
