Dubliner shares chicken wrap price and says it must be 'made of gold'

A Dublin man has caused outrage online after posting the cost of his chicken wrap from a Deli and joked that it “must be made of gold.”

Taking to TikTok and sharing a video of the €9 chicken wrap, @officialhuggieb3ar defended his shock at the price by saying he had only asked for three toppings on it.

His lunch ended up costing him a whopping €8.60 from a shop in the Irish capital, and after being left less than impressed, he wrote: "Nah, must be made of gold or something. Nah, definitely has to be made of gold. Dublin, why."

The video attracted others who were left dumbfounded by the price of the roll with one person commenting: "Why did they have to increase the price of chicken fillet rolls though," while a second person wrote: "Rip off big time."

A third user joked that there must have been "a golden ticket inside,” and a fourth person said they “would have left it on the shelf."

It’s not just the cost of deli food that continues to see vast increases, as consumers face mega hikes on essentials like dairy products and fish as wholesale costs jump.

According to figures released this week, producers were forced to increase the price of milk, eggs, and cheese by 53% in the past 12 months which will now be passed on to customers.

Meanwhile, electricity costs jumped by more than 86% in the last year, and the Consumers Association of Ireland chair Michael Kilcoyne said: “The cost of living is going through the roof. The Government is doing very little to intervene or curtail it.”

SSE Airtricity is the latest company to announce further hikes in prices, with thousands of customers now facing major changes to their yearly bills.
