Dublin weather: 'Wintry, thunder' showers to hit Ireland after Storm Dennis as Met Eireann predict -1C temperatures

Met Eireann is predicting wintry and thundery weather in the aftermath of Storm Dennis which took over the country this weekend.

Monday will be cold and blustery today with good sunshine and scattered squally showers with the risk of ongoing hail and thunder.

Temperatures of 8C will drop to a low 1C with further showers of hail and sleet forecast for higher gronuds.

Tuesday will be another cold and windy day with bright spells and scattered showers, some of which will be wintry with the risk of hail and thunder also.

Highest temperatures of 5 to 8C but feeling colder due to the added wind-chill factor in strong west to northwest breezes.

The overview for the week is unsettled with Tuesday night temperatures set to drop to a freezing -1C.

Met Eireann say: "Showers on Tuesday night with frost setting in quickly after dark.

"However, later in the night cloud will thicken and rain will move in to affect parts of the southwest before dawn on Wednesday.

"Lowest temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees in mainly moderate southwest breezes."

For Wednesday, they added: "Rain will extend northeastwards across the country during Wednesday morning accompanied by freshening southerly winds.

"Heavy falls in parts of the west and north with a risk of spot flooding.

"After a cold start maximum afternoon temperatures will range 7 to 10 degrees in strong southwest winds.

"Further outbreaks of rain on Wednesday night, heaviest and most persistent across the western half of the country. Turning cold after the rain clears with lows of 1 to 4 degrees."
