Dublin weather: 'Wintry showers likely' for Ireland following Storm Atiyah say Met Eireann

Dublin is set to be battered by heavy hail and thunder following the visit of the Icelandic beast Storm Atiyah but Met Eireann says that wintry showers are "likely" at the end of this week.

Monday will be very windy in places at first especially in coastal areas but this will continue to decrease as the morning goes on.

It will be a mainly dry and bright day with sunny spells but there is the possibility of a few scattered showers in the early morning.

Temperatures will stay just below double digits for the day dropping to as low as 4C in the night time with heavy rain developing in parts.

The rest of the week will be very unsettled according to Met Eireann who say that temperatures will be colder than normal as we head into the second week of December.

They say Tuesday will be: "Breezy, with a mix of clear spells and scattered showers, most of the showers in the western half of the country, with a risk of hail and thunder in Atlantic coastal areas.

They added: "Showers may turn wintry over high ground. Minimum temperatures 1 to 4 Celsius, in moderate to fresh, west to southwest winds."

The forecaster added that wintry showers are also possible, mainly on high ground on Wednesday before saying that Friday and into the weekend will see "some wintry showers likely, especially over high ground" with the "risk of frost at night".
