Dublin weather: 'Snow and thunderstorms' predicted in Ireland by Met Eireann after sunny conditions this weekend

Met Eireann has said that snow and thunderstorms will hit Ireland next week following what is set to be a sunny weekend with relatively high temperatures.

Friday will start off bright with sunny intervals but cloud will take over as the day goes on with a few showers possible.

The sun will pop its head out once again in the afternoon with temperatures of 9C dropping to zero by night time.

It will be dry and clear at first tonight with a light possibility of frost as temperatures float around 0 and 2C becoming milder overnight with thickening cloud and patchy drizzle developing.

For Saturday, Met Eireann says: "It will be mild, windy and often cloudy tomorrow with some bright or sunny breaks occurring also.

"Mainly dry through to late afternoon with just the odd patch of light rain or drizzle, but rain will spread from the west towards evening. High of 12 degrees in moderate to fresh and gusty south to southwest winds."

Looking further ahead, the National Forecaster is predicting isolated thunderstorms and snow for parts of Ireland on Sunday and into Monday.

Sunny spells and scattered blustery showers will dominate most of Sunday with some of the showers heavy with hail with risks of isolated thunderstorms.

For Monday, Met Eireann added: "It will be wet and windy... rain will become widespread in the morning, falling as sleet and hill snow for a time in parts.

"The rain will be heavy, especially in Atlantic coastal counties, with some spot flooding, but a transition to showers will extend from the west in the afternoon. Winds will be fresh to strong and gusty west to southwest, with coastal gales. Mild with afternoon highs of 9 to 13 degrees, but it will be cold in Ulster at first."
