Dublin Weather: Saturday set for a bright start but Met Eireann forecast more rain and possible flooding

It's a beautiful morning in the capital, but only early birds will get to enjoy this fine start to the weekend because by the afternoon, just the ducks will be happy.

Yes Dublin. Rest assured, more rain is coming - and it's going to be a cold day, Met Eireann assure us.

Here's what they say: "Scattered showers and sunny spells today, some of the showers will be heavy and through the north of the province may be wintry at times.

"Highest temperatures of 5 to 7 degrees. Feeling cold with fresh to strong and gusty westerly winds continuing.

Saturday night

Tonight outbreaks of rain will quickly spread to all areas and will be persistent and at times heavy overnight. Accumulations will lead to local spot flooding.

"Lowest temperatures will be between 3 and 5 degrees. Southwest winds will ease and back southerly before falling light."

Sunday

Tomorrow, Sunday, moderate to fresh west to northwest winds will steadily ease. There'll be scattered showers in the morning, then it will become dry for a time. Highest temperatures of between 5 and 7 degrees.

National outlook for next week

Met Eireann are forecasting more showers, with rain set to ease, then come back and then ease off again on Monday . In other words, the usual nasty sort of day we've become used to.

Tuesday , they say, will be "a very cold day" but Wednesday will be "less cold" but still with fresh westerly winds backing southerly later.

They add: "Wintry showers in the west will ease and there'll be a spell of more persistent rain overnight."

Looking on the bright side, Thursday is looking like a milder day, the weather experts say, but they also warn that  "current indications for the further outlook is for continued unsettled conditions with the Jet Stream remaining the dominant driving factor".

So don't bother getting the barbecue out just yet.
