Dublin teenager who died on holiday on Greek island named

An Irish teenage boy has tragically died while on holiday on the Greek island of Ios.

The Sunday World reported that it's understood the teenager was from the Dublin region and was on holiday with a group of friends on the Greek island of Ios. He had been missing for over 24 hours and his body was discovered by a cliff on the island.

He has been named as 18-year-old Andrew O'Donnell. His former school, St Michael's College in Dublin, said that Andrew was a member of their recently graduated class of 2023.

They paid tribute to him this afternoon, saying: "Andrew was not only a popular classmate and friend, but a proud and committed member of our football team.

"He was kind to those around him, honest in all of his endeavours, and a great brother. Andrew will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

"Our thoughts are with Andrew’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time."

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it was "aware of the case and is providing consular assistance". It added: "As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases."

Andrew was the second Irish man to lose his life in Greece this week, following the death of 22-year-old Rory Deegan from Cullohill, Co Laois, who lost his life in a swimming pool in Zakynthos last Sunday.
