Dublin's beaches left covered in litter and illegal dumping following Bank Holiday Weekend

Littering was rife across Dublin over the Bank Holiday weekend, with many communities waking up this morning to overflowing bins and rubbish thrown across open spaces.

The issue was particularly prevalent on Dublin's beaches, with many reports of overflowing bins and rubbish left by groups.

In Donabate and Portrane, once bins were full bags of rubbish were left beside them.

And this morning, they had been strewn across the area by seagulls.

Posting images of the rubbish, the Donabate Village community page said: "You wait weeks to get back out. Then you do this...this is sickening."

One resident said: "Was up there at 5am this morning, the seagulls were pulling the bins apart. The bin up at the cliffs is overflowing too, the gulls were starting on that one too. If people just took their rubbish home it would stop the seagulls pulling the bins apart for bits of food."

And a local resident shared a story of their experience on Portrane beach on Sunday, when a large family left their rubbish behind them.

They said: "We were on Portrane beach on Sunday and predicted a family of 7 would leave their rubbish strewn around.

"Sure enough they got up and left.... without their rubbish. We went straight over and picked it up .... bottles, baby wipes, crisp bags.... disgusting!

"Unfortunately people don’t care... we do .. so we picked it up. Bring a bag and expect to pick other people’s rubbish up when you’re out. We did it again yesterday!!!! And no doubt again today."

The same issue was also reported in Portmarnock, where full bins were loaded with rubbish.

As a result, the area around the bin was littered by careless people.

Yesterday, Dublin Live reported on the "drastic increase" of illegal rubbish cropping up across the capital.

From Malahide to Tallaght, and from Finglas to Walkinstown, there has been reports of illegal littering and dumping in communities.

Fingal County Council said it was "alarmed" at the "drastic increase" in littering and dumping at parks and beaches.
