Dublin pubs: Spending in boozers soars after restrictions were lifted

Consumer spending in pubs last month rose 49% with an average total spend of €1.6million a day.

While Dublin had the highest daily spend at €500,000, Donegal punters recorded the biggest increase in pub spending, up 60% from January.

This was followed closely by Mayo (+57%) and Sligo (+57%). When broken down by age, those between 25 and 34 recorded the biggest spending hike nationally.

The AIB figures compiled over one million card transactions by Irish consumers in February.

John Brennan, head of SME Banking at AIB, said the consumer spending was up over the last few weeks as “people returned to socialising again”.
