Dublin City Council has today announced a new rainbow walk on Capel St in partnership with Dublin Pride.
The stunning mural was painted onto the street overnight outside PantiBar by a crew from the Traffic Section, and is believed to be the first of its kind in Ireland.
According to organisers, the idea for the beautiful piece was discussed at an Area Committee meeting just last week and was brought to life in a matter of days.
This initiative is part of a wider programme led by the Office of City Recovery, who say there is potential for more of them going forward in other counties.
A spokesperson said; "If, as expected, the rainbow walk on Capel St is deemed a success, the City Council plans to paint more rainbow walks in other city-centre locations next week."
Earlier this week a separate new mural appeared in Dublin, inspired by the stories of LGBTI+ young people growing up in Ireland.
The piece is on Camden Row in the city centre and was created by Subset in collaboration with Foróige, the National Youth Development Organisation.
Roisín Coffey Duff, one of the people who was involved in the planning of this project, said: "As a group, we came up with the idea of having it around nature because we found nature a great escape when we were still closeted.
"I love the mural. I love the gender, the sexuality. It's beautiful. I feel a very personal connection to it."
