Dublin city centre residents 'driven demented' by alarm going off for four days straight

Residents in a city centre apartment block were “driven demented” by a security alarm that had been going off for four days straight.

The alarm, which is believed to have been from one of the pubs down by the quays, had been blaring continuously since Friday night.

Niall Colbert, who lives in an apartment block near Leinster Market, told Dublin Live: “I called the Gardai on Pearse street (a stone's throw away from the building) at 7:45am on Sunday morning and followed up 8 hours later.

"They said they could only check to see if there was a break in, and had no power to turn it off.”

The Today FM presenter also contacted Dublin City Council as well as all five south east inner city councillors about the noise.

"I also logged a complaint with the EPA on Sunday night. But they only notify the local authority in charge."

After four successive days of the racket, residents were relieved after the alarm was finally turned off this morning.

Niall added: “I'm already looking forward to going to bed tonight! I'm just shocked that it was able to go on for so long."

But the source of the alarm is still a mystery.

Niall said: “When I was leaving for work this morning I spoke with someone from Trinity's school of nursing.

“They said it might belong to one of the pubs that face out onto the quays.”
