Dublin breakdancers aim for Olympic gold and plan to wow Britain’s Got Talent judges

Irish breakdancers House of Swag are aiming for Olympic gold and plan on wowing the Britain’s Got Talent judges again.

Known as Breaking, it will make its debut in the 2024 Olympic Games and the first step on the road to Paris is the European Championships in Russia later this month

House of Swag’s manager Tom Kelly told the Irish Mirror the sport is going from strength to strength.

He said: “We’ve toured all over the world and we’ve won championships, but in December this year breakdancing became an official Olympic Sport. We’ve always done it here but it was never classed as a sport, but now it’s considered elite athletics.”

House of Swag will be representing Ireland in two events in Russia, where all the five dancers will be part of team Ireland for the 5 V 5 Crew Battles.

Both Katie and Holly have also been chosen to represent Team Ireland in the solo category 1 v 1 battles.

Tom added: “This is a huge achievement not only for us, but also for Ireland, taking a huge step into this new sport with hopes of working towards gaining qualification towards Paris 2024.”

From being hand picked as Justin Bieber’s backing dancers for his Irish tour to wowing Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden on Britain’s Got Talent, House of Swag are taking the world by storm.

Tom said: “The kids come to us in our studio in Swords, Co Dublin and we talk about feelings before we dance, there’s no bullying and we shine a light on mental health issues.

“Everyone with every ability is welcome here.

“We work very closely with mental health issues, we were on Britain’s Got Talent pre-pandemic and Simon was intrigued by our mental health ethos.

“We got the four yes’ from the judges, Simon gave us great feedback on how he can make us bigger and they want us to go back again this year, so it’s onwards and upwards.”
