Dublin Airport suspends flights after more 'illegal drone activity'

Flights at Dublin Airport were suspended for 30 minutes this evening after a drone was flown illegally near the airport.

The drone activity caused flights to and from the airport to be temporarily suspended as a safety precaution.

At 8.46pm on Tuesday evening, the official Twitter account for Dublin Airport wrote: "Due to illegal drone activity in the vicinity of Dublin Airport, all flight operations are currently suspended. Further updates will follow…"

Dublin Airport later wrote: "Flight operations at Dublin Airport have now resumed after a suspension of 30 minutes."

They added: "We would remind drone users that it is illegal to fly a drone within 5km of the airport. Severe punishments must follow for anyone found guilty."

Meanwhile, Ryanair has called on Transport Minister Eamon Ryan to take action.

The airline stated the airport was closed temporarily today for the fifth time in four weeks due to drone disruptions, resulting in delay.

A spokesperson said: “It is unacceptable that more Ryanair flights and hundreds of passengers have again suffered disruptions and delays as Dublin Airport closed for a 5^th time in 4 weeks due to Transport Min. Eamon Ryan’s failure to take any action to prevent drone disruptions at Dublin Airport. As always Min Ryan promises 'stronger enforcement measures' but delivers nothing.

"Min. Ryan should explain why other EU Airports have effective drone prevention measures in place but Dublin keeps being disrupted while he is asleep on the job. Sadly, our Transport Min. is all talk and no action when it comes to drone disruptions.”
