Dublin Airport shoplifter thinks they've escaped until quick-thinking gardai get goods back with help of Ryanair crew

A Dublin Airport thief who thought they had escaped Ireland with stolen goods was in for a shock as they were arrested on arrival to their destination in the UK.

The incident happened this morning in Terminal 1 of the airport when gardai were alerted to the robbery. Staff at The Loop, the airport's shop, gave gardai a description of the shoplifter and within moments they found the person on CCTV.

But the plane they were on had already left the gate and they had at hundreds of euro worth of stolen goods. But with quick thinking gardai got onto police at Gatwick Airport - and the stolen goods arrived back into Dublin by lunchtime.

It turned out the stolen items were worth more than €660 when they were searched by Sussex Police. With the help of the Ryanair crew on flight FR115 they came back to Ireland safe and sound.

Gardai said on social media: "When the Garda got to the Boarding Gate, the plane was in taxi with the person onboard having stolen at least €260 worth of goods. But not giving up - the Garda reached our Sussex Police colleagues in Gatwick Airport to provide the person’s image before the flight landed and they would disembark.

"After Gatwick Police intercepted the person and conducted a search, it was discovered that she had stolen more than €660 worth of items from stores at Dublin Airport. The crew of Ryanair flight FR115 returned the items to Dublin Airport and they were back in the retail stores affected by lunchtime."
