Dublin Airport security queues: Peak times for both Terminals and how long to arrive before your flight

There has been queueing chaos in Dublin Airport in recent days as passengers lined up outside the Terminals in their thousands.

Over 1,000 people missed their flights yesterday due to the lengthy delays, and gardai were at the scene to control the crowds.

Yesterday morning, Dublin Airport told passengers waiting outside the Terminals that they might not make their flights and apologised for the inconvenience.

They said: "Due to significant queues inside the terminal for check-in, bag drop and security, passengers queueing outside the terminal may not make their flight and may need to contact their airline to rebook. We sincerely apologise for the obvious frustration and inconvenience this may cause.

"Dublin Airport is working to ensure queuing times are minimal for all passengers, but anyone travelling from Dublin Airport today (Sunday) is advised to allow additional time. Dublin Airport apologies unreservedly to passengers for the delays encountered."

If you're travelling through the airport soon, here's all the information you need to know to make your journey as smooth as possible.

What are the peak times for Terminal 1 and Terminal 2?

Dublin Airport has said that at the moment, peak times at security can occur in Terminal 1 between 5am to 8am for morning flights, and in Terminal 2 at 5am to 12 noon for morning and early afternoon flights.

Terminal 1 has a second peak time at security between 3pm to 7pm for evening flights.

Weekends, and in particular bank holiday weekends, can be busy all day.

What time should I arrive at the airport?

The Airport's most up-to-date travel advice urges passengers not to arrive any earlier than 2.5 hours before short-haul flights to Europe and the UK and 3.5 hours before long-haul flights.

Passengers on short-haul flights taking off after 8.30am are advised not to arrive earlier than 6am.

Where possible, passengers should check-in online in advance of travelling to the airport. Airline check-in desk and bag drop times vary, so passengers should contact their airline to confirm and plan their journey accordingly.
