The government has been slammed for passenger frustration over passport control delays at Dublin Airport by the transport hub's authority chief.
Dalton Philips, the daa chief executive, has urged the Department of Justice to open the e-gates on a full-time basis.
In a letter to the department that operates passport control, he said that passengers have been left "hugely frustrated" seeing the booths regularly switched off.
The Herald reports that he disputed claims by the department that delays have been down to infrastructure issues.
According to Mr Philips, the full staffing of passport control booths and e-gates is "crucial" to its proper operation.
He said: "It is crucial we have the required levels of staffing to ensure that all booths are manned at the appropriate times.
"The passenger experience for both our departing and arriving passengers if of utmost importance to us."
He said that CCTV footage of queues that grew on the June Bank Holiday weekend show "there were no passengers flowing to a number of booths".
He continued: "It does not seem on this occasion that the root cause of the issue was the infrastructure."
