Drunk Florida man drives lawnmower down major road, tells police 'Just take me to jail'

A drunk Florida man asked a police officer to "take him to jail" after he was caught driving his lawnmower on a major road.

Paul Burke was arrested on a charge of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) on August 5, Newsweek reported. Burke already had three previous DUI charges, the Marion County Sheriff's office said in a Facebook post.

Footage from the incident shows Deputy Richard Jentsch tailing Mr Burke as the inebriated Floridian drove his lawnmower down Highway 316 in Fort McCoy, 100 miles north of Orlando City.

The officer pulled Burke over and asked him how much he had drunk.

Burke replied that he had had "a couple", adding that he was on his way home.

He then asked Deputy Jentsch if he was going to take him to jail or not.

"Are you going to take me to jail or not?", he said.

The footage shows Burke staggering as he attempted to do some sobriety exercises.

Frustrated with the exercises Burke refused an offer to do try them again, and asked to be taken to jail instead.

"No sir, just take me to jail," he said.
