Drunk driver went onto tram tracks and through Metrolink stop - then blamed his sat nav

A drunk driver who drove onto the tram tracks tried to blame his sat nav, police said.

Officers on patrol in east Manchester last night said the motorist drove on the tram tracks near the Etihad Stadium.

They said the driver turned around after realising what he'd done.

When he was stopped by police, he blamed his actions on his sat nav system.

He was then failed a breath test.

Posting on the GMP Manchester East Facebook page, officers said: "Good Evening #TransportUnit XM24 have been in East Manchester tonight where they have observed a driver who decides to join the tramway near the Etihad and " Big Asdas " travelling through the metro stop towards the tunnel at the rear of the stadium before turning around seeing the error of his ways.

"Male blamed his Sat Nav for his decision making ......but you can't blame the Sat Nav for failing the roadside breath test! #NoneForTheRoad. PC Marc"
