Drone footage shows scale of Suffolk wildfires as firefighters battle huge blaze

A major incident has been declared in Suffolk as wildfires burn across heathland, with aerial footage showing firefighters tackling the blaze.

Emergency services were called to reports of a wildfire at Dunwich Heath, near Leiston, on Wednesday (29 July), shortly before 5.30pm.

The blaze, which is burning just a few miles from Sizewell B, Britain’s largest nuclear power station, is “spreading rapidly”.

Footage shows crews from Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service battling the blaze, which is expected to last for up to two more days due to its “size and complexity”.

The fire service said there is currently no risk to Sizewell B, which has safety infrastructure to combat wildfires. However, it said it will continue to provide updates on the “dynamic” situation.
