Drivers warned to expect delays as roadworks hit busy Bury junction for 16 WEEKS

Drivers are being urged to consider leaving the car at home as roadworks hit a busy Bury junction for 16 weeks.

Junction improvement work has begun today (July 12) on the A58 Angouleme Way, at the junction with Market Street, near to Bury Market and the Interchange.

It's the latest road in Greater Manchester which is set to welcome a new CYCLOPS junction, with separate lanes for pedestrians and cyclists to help keep road users safe.

But the work is expected to last until November 1 - and drivers are being warned to expect disruption.

The exit slip road onto Angouleme Way will be closed for the duration of the works, while entrances and exits to Market Street will also be shut.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) says the roads surrounding the works are likely to be congested and slow moving, while shorter trips 'may be quicker by walking and cycling'.

A spokesperson for TfGM said: "Due to these works being directly next to the Interchange, and to effectively manage traffic whilst the junction is upgraded, the exit slip on to Angouleme Way will be closed for the duration of these works.

Entrances and exits to Market Street will also be closed for the duration. These closures will be in place at all times for the duration of the works.

"If you have to drive, please plan before every trip and consider re-routing your journey around the local area in order to avoid delays.

"During the works, it might be easier for you to consider switching to Metrolink and leave the car at home."

Bus services are also set to be affected by the works - with the 93, 97, 163, 467, 468, 471 (Rochdale), 481, 483, 494, B2, B4, R2 and X63 routes all being diverted.

For more information on how the roadworks will affect public transport, see the TfGM website.

The work is part of Bury Council’s Highway Investment Strategy for improving the borough's roads.
