Drivers warned over wing mirror scam

Motorists are being warned of a con that could see them out of pocket

Police have warned drivers to be vigilant after some people paid out for damage they did not cause. The new scam sees people point the blame for damage caused to a wing mirror and ask for money to pay for repairs.

North Wales Live reports a man driving a Range Rover in the Pensarn area of Conwy, Wales became a target for the scam on May 30. A North Wales Police spokesperson warned: "The victim will be driving along and then hear a bang on the passenger side of their vehicle. A car will then follow behind, get them to pull over and then claim that the victim just struck his driver's door mirror and demand cash for repairs.

"A car will then follow behind, get them to pull over and then claim that the victim just struck his driver's door mirror and demand cash for repairs. What actually happens is that the scammer is parked at the roadside and will deliberately strike the victim's car as it passes. The damaged mirror is fake and wasn't caused by the victim."
