An Ayrshire man who led police on a dangerous car chase through Ardrossan has lost his license.
William Gallagher was spotted speeding through a 30mph zone by police who were on patrol in North Ayrshire on March 1 this year.
Gallagher of Ritchie Street in West Kilbride, then failed to stop for police who followed him as he shot through the streets, overtaking other drivers and cutting corners into the opposite roadside.
Gallagher admitted to driving dangerously on Montgomerie Street, North Crescent Road, Eglinton Road and the A78 between Ardrossan and Saltcoats on March 1 this year.
The 27-year-old also pleaded guilty to having a knife on the same date but was later admonished of this charge.
The prosecutor told the court: “It was 2.50pm on March 1, police witnesses engaged in mobile patrol duties in North Ayrshire had their attention drawn to the accused’s motor vehicle while it was over taking a silver vehicle which was complying with the speed limit.
“Police activated blue lights and a siren and observed the accused vastly exceeding the speed limit, over taking another proceeding vehicles."
Gallagher continued at high speed forcing the police to exceed to the speed limit in pursuit of him.
He approached North Crescent Road where he took a right hand bend at high speed forcing him to enter the opposite carriageway before heading for the A78.
He later stopped and was arrested.
His defence agent said: “Mr Gallagher accepts that he was driving in a manner which potentially put people in danger, particularly going onto the other side of the road.”
Sheriff Jamieson fined Gallagher £380 and disqualified for 12 months.
