A driver has been charged after a police car was rammed and a cyclist hit during a Melbourne crime spree.

Police on Friday confirmed the 18-year-old would be prosecuted for a string of offences which started with a carjacking at Templestowe in the city's east about 9.30pm on Wednesday.

The Mitsubishi Lancer was dumped in the nearby suburb of Nunawading and another car was stolen during an aggravated burglary.

It's suspected the white Audi coupe later struck a cyclist at Box Hill South. The driver failed to stop and the male rider was taken to hospital with injuries.

The driver then hit a number of parked cars before waking a sleeping resident and making demands for property, investigators said.

A police car was later rammed, leaving two officers with minor injuries.

An 18-year-old man from Olinda was charged with the aggravated intentional exposure of a police officer to risk by driving, aggravated carjacking with an offensive weapon and aggravated burglary.

He will be held in custody to face Melbourne Magistrates Court in December.
