Drink drive telly star crashed £40k Jag after downing almost four times the booze limit

A TV interior designer crashed his expensive car after downing four times the legal limit of booze.

John Amabile has been banned from driving, fined and ordered to attend rehab after his £40k Jaguar ploughed into a traffic island.

The 56-year-old - who appeared in multiple shows over the years - was in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court this week, the Daily Record reports.

A police breathalyser revealed he had 86 microgrammes of alchohol in 100ml of breath - almost four times the legal limit of 22.

Amabile, who has appeared on Better Homes, GMTV, 60 Minute Makeover and The Hour, pled guilty to the drink driving charge.

He was fined £450, reduced from £600, as he admitted his guilt, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20, offering to pay the fine at a rate of £150-per-month.

He was also banned from driving for 21 months, reduced from 25 months due to his guilty plea, and told to attend a drink-driving rehabilitation course.

Two references of support for Amabile were handed over by his solicitor to the judge.

The designer also appeared in several English TV shows and in some in America and the Scotsman voted him the tenth most eligible bachelor in Scotland in 2002 - the same year he racked up his first conviction for drink-driving.

Back then he was fined £250 and banned from driving for one year after being convicted at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
