Dreamy Greek island with tiny population will pay families £450 a month to live there

Are you after a change of scenery...(we wouldn't blame you with this rubbish summer weather)?

How does swapping Edinburgh's grey skies for beautiful sunsets on a Greek island sound?

If this sounds like a dream then listen up because a small island called Antikythera will pay families to live there.

Situated between Crete and Kythira, the island has a dwindling population with only 24 residents - this increases to 40 over the summer.

The residents are primarily aged 50 and over and there are very few children, reports Chronicle Live.

In a desperate bid to "revive" the beautiful island, officials on Antikythera have now started a "re-population project" and are on the hunt for families with more than three children to move there.

Under the scheme, the authorities will provide each family with a monthly stipend of €500 (£450)and are looking for people who are willing to work as fishermen, stock-farmers, builders or bakers.

Speaking to the Greek website iefimerida, president of the local council Andreas Harhalakis said that 40 years ago around 300 people lived on the island.

He added: "We are looking for many families to 'revive' our island.

"The specialties of the people we seek are bakers, builders and fishermen. These people could secure a decent payday in Antikythera."

Antikythera has just one small shop - but it does have electricity and internet connection, so you can stay in touch with friends and family.

To find out more or to apply, visit the Antikythira website or call the local council on +30 2736033004.
