Draymond Green says Warriors ‘still not a very good team’ after win

Draymond Green isn’t going to mince words about the current state of the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors won their first game of the season Monday night against the New Orleans Pelicans but Green was honest in sharing his feelings about the team’s status.

According to The Athletic’s Anthony Slater, Green said:

We’re still not a very good team. We have a lot of room for improvement. Just because we won one game doesn’t mean we don’t suck right now. We still have a lot of improvement to do.

Green also referenced some of the comments he made following the Warriors’ loss on Sunday to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In short, he doubled down, but elaborated:

When I said we sucked last night, I see a lot of people blew it out of proportion. A lot of former players who ain’t ever led (expletive) blew it out of proportion. We sucked, and we’re still not very good. But I’ve actually known how to lead my entire life, so those that have never led shouldn’t probably talk about leading.

As one of the Warriors’ leaders, Green being vocal could help motivate his teammates. To his credit, he didn’t shy away from being aggressive against the Pelicans. He recorded his 23rd regular season triple-double with 16 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists.

The Warriors will play their next game on Wednesday night against the Phoenix Suns, at home.
