Dramatic video shows huge car blaze after arson attack in Hartcliffe

Dramatic video shows fire crews attending a vehicle blaze in Hartcliffe this evening (November 10).

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue Service says it's believed the blaze was started deliberately.

The video, captured around 8.30pm this evening, shows crews attending an ignited and smoking car on Whitchurch Lane, Hartcliffe.

Footage shows multiple firefighters using hoses on the vehicle, from which bright flames and heavy smoke are issuing.

The scene is accompanied by the flashing blue lights of emergency services vehicles.

At least two officers can be seen approaching the blaze, with flames issuing over head-height from the main cab of the car.

Thick smoke coming from the car is obscuring the scene behind the fire, with the clip showing firefighters approaching the blaze and disappearing behind it as they work to quell the flames.

Avon Fire and Rescue confirmed this evening that two crews from Bedminster had attended the blaze and that the investigation had led fire services to believe it was started deliberately.

The statement said: "We were called at 20:20 to reports of a car on fire on Whitchurch Lane, Hartcliffe.

"Two fire engines from Bedminster fire station attended the incident and found a car on fire.

"The crews, with one firefighter wearing breathing apparatus for safety, used two high pressure hose reels to extinguish the fire and a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots. The crews then worked to make the vehicle safe.

"The cause of the fire is thought to be deliberate ignition."
