Dragons make three signings in two days as Cardiff Blues full-back and Argentina star announced

The Dragons have announced their second and third signings in the space of a few days, with Argentina scrum-half Gonzalo Bertranou an intriguing coup for the Welsh region.

Bertranou has agreed an initial deal until the end of the season and could even feature against Leinster on Friday night.

Talented Cardiff Blues full-back Ioan Davies, 21, has also signed for the injury-hit Dragons on loan until the end of the current campaign.

The pair follow former Ospreys and Wales international Dan Baker, who himself officially signed a short term deal at the region on Monday after a spell in France.

Bertranou will remain in Gwent longer term as long as he settles over the coming months, with the 27-year-old adding: “I’m looking forward to starting to train and play with the team. I’m very happy.

“This is my first time in Wales, so it is an exciting time for me. It is a good opportunity for me to prove myself.

“I love the way the Wales team plays and obviously Dragons, so I am now looking forward to start playing.”

Bertranou has won 26 caps for the Pumas and been an important figure for the Jaguares Super Rugby side.

He will compete for the No 9 jersey with Welsh international Rhodri Williams, Englishman Luke Baldwin and Dan Babos.

Bertranou made his full Test debut against Paraguay in Asuncion, aged just 21, in May 2015 and is now a Test regular in the matchday squad.

He came off the bench during the famous 25-15 victory over the All Blacks late last year in Paramatta and started the drawn match with the Wallabies in Newcastle, winning his most recent cap in the rematch with the Aussies in December.
