Dozens of homes evacuated after suspect device found in Dublin garden

Dozens of homes have been evacuated after a suspected explosive device was discovered in a garden in south Dublin this afternoon.

Gardai raced to the scene after being alerted to the device in the Cushlawn area of Tallaght at around 2:30pm.

Houses and the surrounding area were evacuated while the Army Bomb Disposal Unit tended to the device.

A garda spokeswoman told Dublin Live investigations into the find are ongoing and homes remain evacuated at the moment.

She said: "Gardaí are currently at the scene of an incident in the Cushlawn area, Tallaght, Dublin 24.

"A suspect device was sighted in the area and Gardaí were alerted to the incident at approximately 2.30pm. The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) are attending to the device presently.

"Local housing and the surrounding areas have been evacuated as a precaution. Investigations are ongoing."
