Dowry: Probe begins over assault on pregnant wife in Aluva

KOCHI: Aluva West police has launched a probe against Alangad native Jauhar, who allegedly assaulted his pregnant wife over dowry issues.

The complaint was filed by a 22-year-old woman, Nahalath, a native of Thuruthu in Aluva, at the women's cell on Wednesday night which later forwarded the complaint to Aluva West Police. The accused is yet to be traced.

According to the police, the woman, who is reportedly four-and-a-half months pregnant, was beaten up by her husband at his house. When the woman’s father Salim went to enquire about the issue, he was also reportedly beaten up by the man. The woman’s mother claimed that they had given around Rs 10 lakh, including gold worth Rs 2 lakh as dowry after the marriage around nine months ago but the man demanded dowry and was harassing the woman.

“A case will be registered against the man after taking statements from the victims,” said the police.
