Down Area League postpones fixtures as player is tested for Covid-19

The Down Area Winter Football League has postponed games until further notice after a player was tested for coronavirus.

DAWFL chairman Ian Frazer said the player - from one of the league's member clubs - is being tested for Covid-19.

Frazer also confirmed that the player took part in a fixture last Saturday.

"We have recently received correspondence that a player with one of our member clubs who took part in a fixture last Saturday is currently being tested for COVID 19," Frazer said in a statement.

"The results will not be known until Saturday and the two clubs concerned have been informed directly and we thank them for their swift actions.

"With the imminent arrival of limiting arrangements to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus COVID-19, the DAWFL Chairman with the support of his Committee has decided to postpone all league meetings and fixtures until further notice.

"I hope all clubs, their managers and players will support this difficult decision and understand the health, safety and wellbeing for all our members during this difficult period is my main consideration.

"It is unclear what is ahead during this very challenging period in sport but I want to reassure all member clubs, that games will resume as soon as possible and our intention at this time is to hope complete all league and cup competitions to their conclusion."
