Douglas Blyde’s favourite cocktails at Soho bar Below Stone Nest

Be led into temptation at Below Stone Nest, a candlelit dive bar brought to you by brothers Frank and Jackson Boxer, the minds behind Vauxhall’s Brunswick House, Frank’s Cafe, the Camberwell Arms and Orasay.

Occupying the peeling undercroft of a Norman style Welsh chapel, the 12,000 square foot space was once Limelight, one of London’s most famous nightclubs, frequented by the likes of George Michael and Boy George.

Now, the building hosts a dynamic arts space under gradual restoration, where Below Stone Nest serves low intervention wines and Frank’s slippery cocktails, all chalked on a blackboard menu.

Three of my favourites on Frank’s inventive list include the staff’s choice, Lupé’s Margarita, a slightly sweeter take on the classic paying homage to Frank’s daughter; the blood orange, gin-heavy Aperol Sour, garnished with grapefruit and a vegan-friendly foam cap to tickle the lips; and the East 8 Hold Up, a juicy thirst-quencher of vodka, Aperol, passionfruit and pineapple - all of which are perfect for sipping while listening to music from the likes of Mc Pinty, Kero Kero Bonito and Arlo Parks.
