Doug Pederson not sweating Jaguars’ losing streak vs. Texans

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been streak breakers so far in 2022. The team snapped an 18-game road losing streak and fought of their West Coast woes with a 38-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

So it’s not much of a surprise that Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson isn’t too worried about the team’s eight-game losing streak against the Houston Texans.

“I know that’s the deal,” Pederson said Wednesday, via Jaguars.com. “But this is a new team, new season, new opportunity for our guys. It may be something we talk about in small circles, but it’s not a key message for me this week.”

The Jaguars’ last win against the Texans came in 2017 when the team swept Houston that year by a combined 60 points. Last season, the Texans beat the Jaguars by 16 and 14 points in their the two meetings.

Jacksonville’s recent slide is only its latest losing streak against Houston. The Jaguars lost five straight against the Texans in 2011 and 2012, then six straight from 2014 to 2016. Altogether, the Jaguars have lost 19 of their last 23 against Houston.

Losing a ninth consecutive game to the Texans would be disastrous, though. Houston is the NFL’s only winless team and the Jaguars have a chance to stay at the top of the AFC South standings. As Pederson said, it’s a new team and a new opportunity to keep the past in the past for the Jaguars.
