There have been 'initial talks' over a contract extension for James Milner but there are 'doubts' from both sides, according to this report.
Goal claim that Jurgen Klopp would like the 36-year-old midfielder to remain at Anfield beyond this season - and the Liverpool boss is said to have made that point to both the player and the club's incoming sporting director Julian Ward.
The report adds, however, that Milner is, at best, fifth choice in midfield following the rise of Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones.

Rumoured Liverpool target Renato Sanches could be poised for a move to Serie A in the summer - if a new report from Italy is anything to go by.
The Reds have been linked with the Lille midfielder for some time but that ship may have sailed as AC Milan are said to be closing in on a move. Outlet Calciomercato claim that the San Siro outfit have been 'working for months' to complete a deal for the Portuguese, who is out of contract in 2023.
They add that an 'agreement in principle' has been reached between Milan and Lille for a deal worth €20million, plus up to €5 million in add-ons.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Bundesliga champions for some time with the Reds among those clubs reported to hold an interest. However, now Madrid could make a move with this report suggesting the player's head 'has been turned'.
Bayern are said to want Gnabry to extend his contract at the Allianz Arena but he's currently attracting admiring glances from across Europe with Liverpool's Premier League rivals Arsenal also said to be interested.
