Doubt cast over Thomas Partey fitness ahead of Leeds United clash

Thomas Partey will fly back to London having missed Ghana's 1-1 draw against Angola in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers on Monday due to injury.

Partey is expected back in the capital on Tuesday where Arsenal will assess his injury ahead of Saturday's Premier League match against Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium.

The Arsenal midfielder had completed the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 win over the same opposition last Thursday, but felt a problem in his right leg during training on Sunday.

According to goal.com, sources close to the player suggest Partey has not sustained a hamstring issue, and is likely to be fine for the visit of Leeds.

Partey was accompanied by Arsenal physio Simon Murphy in Ghana, and the club will make a decision later this week on whether he can feature against the Whites.

Ghana manager Chris Hughton confirmed that Partey, who was an unused substitute in Angola, was deemed too much of a risk.

“Thomas has some small injury issues. We felt it was too big a risk to start him," Hughton revealed in his post-match press conference.

Partey's possible absence would serve as a major blow to Arsenal, whose win percentage drops from 65% to 50% when the Ghanaian international doesn't start.

If Partey is not available for selection on Saturday then Jorginho will likely replace him.
