Double Arsenal injury blow confirmed as Mikel Arteta explains Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang absence

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal team selection for this evening's Premier League fixture against Sheffield United is rather interesting.

The Gunners go into the game on the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw in the first-leg of their Europa League quarter-final against Slavia Prague on Thursday night.

Conceding a crucial away goal means Arsenal must score in the Czech Republic next week in order to have any chance of reaching the semi-final and keep their hopes of playing Champions League football next season alive.

However, it's four games without a win across all competitions for the north London outfit since beating Tottenham Hotspur just under a month ago and they start the evening in 11th place.

In an attempt to get his side back on the winning trail in the Premier League and to avoid a fifth game without a win, Arteta has made several changes to the side which started against Slavia Prague.

Five to be exact.

Hector Bellerin, Cedric Soares, Gabriel Magalhaes, Willian, and Emile Smith Rowe all drop out of the team with the latter not in the matchday squad.

Meanwhile, captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - a substitute three days ago - also hasn't travelled to Bramall Lane.

He along with Smith Rowe join Martin Odegaard, David Luiz and Kieran Tierney as the five players unavailable to Arteta for the final Premier League game of the weekend.

Speaking ahead of kick-off, the Spaniard confirmed Aubameyang's absence is down to the striker being unwell and also revealed a double injury blow.

"David [Luiz] is injured," Arteta told BT Sport. "Kieran [Tierney] is injured, Auba is unwell, Martin [Odegaard] is injured and Emile [Smith Rowe] is injured, so they are all out.

"We were going to make some changes anyway but we've lost some very important players in the last few weeks."
