Donis Avdijaj signs for Hearts as Daniel Stendel continues Tynecastle rebuild

Hearts have completed the signing of Kosovan international Donis Avdijaj.

The 23-year-old has joined the Jambos on an initial six month deal after leaving Turkish side Trabzonspor.

The attacker was highly rated at Schalke before loan spells with Roda JC in Holland and Sturm Graz in Belgium.

He spent the 2018/19 season with Dutch side Willem II but fitness issues resulted in the Eredivise side terminating his contract.

Avdijaj made the move to Turkey last summer, initially until the end of the season, with the option of an additional three years should things go well.

However, the Super Lig side have opted to let the former German youth international pursue other options after just six months.

And Daniel Stendel has snapped up Avdijaj as he continues his rebuild at the Jambos as they sit bottom of the Premiership.

The German started a January clear out with Aidan Kenna and Glenn Whelan moving on, while Jake Mulraney, Christophe Berra, Colin Doyle and Craig Wighton have been told they can leave.

Avdijaj says Stendel played a huge part in why he made the move to Hearts.

He told Hearts TV: "The coach knows me from before and I know the coach from before. We had a talk and it was directly that I want to work with him. He was the main guy why I (decided) to come.

“I’m really happy that I can work with him from now. It’s from both sides, the club and me. The club gives me heart and I want to pay them back, especially the coach. I can’t wait to show the people here who I am.

“I also think the team has quality. They’re are not in a place where they normally are. I think we have one way to go and everyone together

“I read a little bit like everyone does and my wish is to go somewhere the fans want me, where the fans are happy that I am here. I had the feeling that not only about the club but also about the people who live in this city. I was here for two days and it feels like all of the city knows me even though I hadn’t signed.

“It feels great for myself and that is why I also choose to come here, to show myself and to take a lot of wins, to work with heart and celebrate with the people here who are so helpful and so nice.

“I am a guy in all of my clubs before who had a really good relationship with the fans. In my clubs in Holland, Austria and Germany I had my own songs. I love the fans and I like emotions in the game.

“The fans, especially at Hearts as I have seen in the last games, are very nice and every time are behind the team, it doesn’t matter which position (they’re in). I can say this is a family and I want to be part of this family."
