A road adjoining the US Consulate in Hyderabad was ceremonially designated as "Donald Trump Avenue" on Tuesday as part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence.
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor and Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka jointly unveiled a commemorative plaque during the "Freedom 250" gala reception, which brought together diplomats, government representatives and leaders from the business, aerospace, defence and technology sectors.
According to a statement issued on the occasion, the designation by the Telangana government honours the United States and reflects Hyderabad's increasing role in advancing engagement between India and the US.
Ambassador Gor and Deputy Chief Minister Vikramarka led the ceremony, which also underscored the growing strategic and economic relationship between the two countries.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and US Consul General in Hyderabad Laura Williams were among those who participated in the celebrations.
The event served as a platform to highlight expanding cooperation across areas including technology, defence, trade, innovation and investment.
Addressing attendees, Ambassador Gor praised Hyderabad's significance in the evolving bilateral partnership and pointed to the region's contribution to strategic collaboration.
He said the rapid progress of India-US ties was particularly visible in Hyderabad, citing developments ranging from HITEC City to the aerospace and defence sectors as examples of momentum shaping the relationship.
Referring to economic ties, Gor said the interim trade agreement and Mission India initiative were expected to bring more than USD 20 billion in new investment to the United States. He added that the progress demonstrated that an America First approach did not mean America acting alone.
The ambassador also expressed gratitude to the Telangana government for renaming the road, describing it as a tribute that reflected the strong and respectful partnership championed by President Donald Trump.
Congratulating Americans on the country's 250th Independence Day celebrations, Deputy Chief Minister Vikramarka highlighted Hyderabad's contribution to strengthening ties between India and the United States.
He said Hyderabad was proud to serve as one of India's strongest connections to America as the US commemorated Freedom 250.
US Consul General Laura Williams, hosting her first Independence Day reception in Hyderabad, emphasised the region's growing influence in innovation and technology.
She said Hyderabad's innovation ecosystem, spanning aerospace, defence, artificial intelligence and biopharma across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, was helping shape the future globally. Williams added that the consulate remained committed to supporting the exchange of talent and ideas to drive continued growth.
