KOCHI: No new licences for street vending should be issued within Kochi city limits until March 18, the high court has directed.
Justice AK Jayasankaran Nambiar directed that clarity should be achieved regarding the norms for permitting street vending and whether those being permitted for street vending are eligible by then. Street vending scheme within the corporation limits should be finalized by March 18, the court said while no more extension of time will be granted.
In an order issued on January 28, the court had said those relying on street vending for their livelihoods need to be protected and unlicensed vending cannot be allowed.
