When your washer and dryer start destroying your clothes, it’s time to replace them—but deciding on a new set isn’t easy.
That’s where TikTok creator Abigail Bankowski (@adorableabs) found herself after the ones she bought secondhand “ruined” her laundry.
‘I need your help’
In her video, which has over 36,300 views, Abigail asked her followers for advice on which washer and dryer to get next.
“If you have a washer and dryer that you either love or hate, I need your help,” she said. “Long story short, my husband and I bought our washer and dryer off of Marketplace… practically brand new around three years ago.”
She explained that the set had been acting up for a while.
“It would occasionally stain our clothes,” she shared. “Either look like oil stains or kind of like bleach stains. We don’t have bleach in the house.”
The dryer wasn’t doing much better.
“Our dryer also leaks some water too when it’s running weird,” she said. “Anyways, the past couple weeks, every time I do a load of laundry, half of the clothes are getting ruined. They’re all staining.”
That was the last straw.
“My husband and I have decided that we just need to get a new set,” she said.
Why Lowe’s?
Abigail explained that she plans to buy from Lowe’s because of her military discount and the store’s Fourth of July sale.
“I’m gonna go to Lowe’s and look at them,” she said. “If any of you have had or have any of these and love or hate them, I need to know. So let’s go.”
With her baby in tow, she walked into the store to see what they had in stock.
“I hope they have the ones that I wanna see in stock, ’cause I don’t like to buy something without seeing it in person,” she said.
Which washer and dryer is she considering?
Abigail walked her viewers through the models she was eyeing.
“I don’t want these ones ’cause the drums get so moldy,” she said about one front-loader design. “I know there’s one that has like a vent now.”
She continued, “I can’t remember what brand it is, so I need to find it.”
She pointed out one model in particular.
“This is the one that I really want if we get a front loader,” she said. “They have like holes in it that are supposed to help stop the mold. Does anyone have this? Does it work? It looks cheaply made though.”
She also looked at the Samsung PET1.
“This is the pet one that we were looking at,” she said. “I have a German Shepherd and a Chocolate Lab, so the hair is unreal and it clogs our other washing machine a lot.”
Back in her car, she summed up her thoughts.
She said she’s leaning toward a top loader over her current front loader, which takes too much upkeep to prevent mold.
“However, I don’t want an agitator, she says. “I’ve used washing machines with agitators before and it quite literally has ripped and worn out my clothes.”
Even so, she said she’d heard some mixed reviews about agitator-free machines.
“Our top pick is definitely the Samsung PET1,” she added. “If I went with a front loader, I definitely would have to get the GE one with the ultra vent system.”
She finished by thanking viewers for their input.
“Thank you in advance for anyone who gives us recommendations,” she said. “I seriously could use some. I’m really stuck.”
Commenters share their advice
Viewers filled the comments with recommendations and warnings.
“Don’t get: Samsung, LG, Whirlpool. Get: Speed Queen or GE/Hotpoint. GE base model around $500 — make sure to get a top loader only and make sure it has an agitator and not an impeller,” one person wrote.
Another added, “I’d stay away from front loaders. We love our LGs. My brother does appliance repair and he said the LGs are good!”
“Appliance repairman’s wife here. He recommends Speed Queen,” someone else said. “If you do end up getting a different brand from Lowe’s definitely buy the extended warranty!”

What do reviews say about these brands?
The brands mentioned—Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, Speed Queen, and GE—have plenty of mixed feedback from both experts and customers.
Speed Queen consistently ranks as one of the most reliable appliance brands, according to Consumer Reports. Many owners swear by the brand for its longevity, calling it one of the closest things you can get to an old‑school, built‑to‑last machine.
LG tends to score near the top for both front‑ and top‑loading washers in Consumer Reports surveys, with users praising its cleaning power, smart features, and value.
Samsung washers land in the middle of the pack. Some models, like the WF45M5500AW, get strong marks for performance and efficiency, but reviewers report inconsistent reliability and frustrating repair experiences.
Whirlpool and GE, including their Hotpoint line, get fair ratings overall. They offer affordable models and a wide range of options, but don’t perform as strongly as brands like LG or Maytag in long‑term owner satisfaction surveys.
