'Don't get excited' - Newcastle United fans remaining cautious after latest takeover rumours

Newcastle United have once again been linked with a takeover, with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia reported to have shown an interest.

The Wall Street Journal claims the consortium, aided by Amanda Staveley, have offered Mike Ashley £340million for the Magpies.

This is far from the first time that reports have linked Ashley with selling Newcastle, although there is no doubt it would appease the fan base.

At the age of 34,  the prince is first in line to the throne to take over from his father King Salman bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud and he currently serves as Deputy Prime Minister.

Backed by reported personal wealth of around £7billion, a takeover could help Newcastle propel themselves up the Premier League table, with Steve Bruce's squad in need of serious investment.

The Magpies have completed two new signings this week, with Valentino Lazaro following Nabil Bentaleb through the door on loan.

However, some supporters will be hoping to see Newcastle searching for new recruits at the top of the transfer market should the takeover go through.

It's not the first time the Crown Prince has been linked with a takeover of an English club either.

Back in February 2019, the Crown Prince was linked with a £3.8bn takeover of Manchester United.

The news has come out of the blue but it's given Newcastle fans a fresh sense of optimism, although most remain wary.

It's fair to say there has been a mixed response from the Magpies fan base, with some supporters refusing to get excited, whilst others can't hide their delight at the possibility of new investment in the club.
