‘Don’t do it‘: Plumber of 33 years spots Lowe’s customer about to make a $839 mistake. Then he asks a worker for her opinion

A dishwasher is one of the larger purchases many of us will make for our homes. They can be the difference between expensive repair bills, being irritated on the daily by a noisy machine, and constantly finding gunk and residue on “clean” dishes.

That’s why it’s important to do your homework before buying a dishwasher.

A plumber recently spotted a Lowe’s customer making what he says is a huge purchasing mistake. Now he’s warning people against doing the same.

His recommendation is dividing people into camps corresponding to their favorite dishwasher brands.

What did the expert say?

Jim and Dave Schuelke are identical twins and second-generation home experts, per their website. The Schuelkes own Twin Home Experts, which provides plumbing, mold removal, rodent removal, and leak detection services in Utah, Arizona, Florida, South Carolina, and the Los Angeles area.

They also run popular social media channels on TikTok, YouTube, and other platforms. On these channels, they provide advice on various aspects of home ownership.

Earlier this month, one of the Schuelkes posted a video showing a Lowe’s customer contemplating buying a Samsung dishwasher.

“Oh, don’t do it,” Schuelke says. “Don’t do it.”

Schuelke says the man ultimately bought the Samsung for $839.

He says the man’s basically bought a $839 “dishing out cash problem.” He says that Samsung dishwashers are plagued with issues, including problems with their spray nozzles, pump systems, and control panels.

“Ninety-five percent of appliance technicians are against the Samsung dishwashers,” Schuelke alleges.

Samsung didn’t immediately respond to an emailed inquiry.

So what should you buy?

In Schuelke’s view, Bosch is a much superior brand of dishwasher.

He shows that the Lowe’s he’s shopping in carries Bosch dishwashers at three price points: $749, $949, and $1,149, which Schuelke describes as “the ultimate.”

“You gotta go with the Bosch,” he continues. “Bosch is definitely top of the line when it comes to dishwashers.”

According to him, the tub is well insulated, meaning the machine runs quietly. It has a power wash that delivers the “deep clean” people want from a dishwasher, he adds.

“They have one of the best aquastop leak protections at the bottom,” Schuelke says.

Then he asks a Lowe’s worker to weigh in on Samsung versus Bosch. She thinks about it for a moment, then responds definitively, “Bosch.”

“You gotta go with Bosch,” Schuelke concludes.

He’s not the only one recommending Bosch. Consumer Reports says the manufacturer “consistently makes great dishwashers” and notes it has its best brand score rating.

Consumers are torn

People have strong opinions about dishwashers. Twin Home Experts’ TikTok recommending Bosch dishwashers over Samsung has nearly 400,000 views and over 1,000 comments.

Multiple people suggested that Samsung should stick to televisions and phones. One joked that garbage collection is a Samsung “graveyard.” Others claim to be perfectly content with their Samsung dishwashers.

A few who say they repair dishwashers urged people against buying Samsung. “I’ve worked on very few Samsung dishwashers but I still wouldn’t recommend them just because they’re Samsung. I’ve never worked on a Bosch but I’ve heard good things from clients,” wrote one.

Many shared their favorite dishwasher brand. Pretty much every major brand got a shoutout somewhere in the comments: Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Miele, GE, Bosch, Samsung.

Not everyone is as much a fan of Bosch as Schuelke, however. A person who says they’re a technician opined that the newer model is inferior to the older ones. Another purported dishwasher repairperson complained that you have to flip Bosches upside down to fix anything.

The brand did get tons of love in the comments, however.

One person claimed to have owned a Bosch dishwasher for 11 years and in all that time, it only required one minor repair.

“Bosch dishwasher for the win,” another said.
