Don’t be surprised to see more of Bisi Johnson in the return game

It looks like an almost guarantee that Vikings seventh-round pick Bisi Johnson will make the roster, especially after the team cut ties with Jordan Taylor on Tuesday morning.

Another thing that separates himself from the other receivers competing for the job is Johnson’s ability to also return kicks.

“He’s done a good job,” Vikings special teams coordinator Marwan Maalouf said Tuesday. “We’ve gotten him a ton of reps in this preseason, both as a returner, punt returner, kickoff returner, and a core player. So I’ve been pleasantly surprised with him and his abilities.”

The more people the Vikings have able to return kicks or punts, the better. The leader for those roles might be Ameer Abdullah, but if the Vikings have Mike Boone over Abdullah on the final depth chart, there will be discussions if Abdullah is worth a roster spot to just be a returner, something the team had to make a decision on year after year with Marcus Sherels.
