Domenico Tedesco in glum pre Rangers verdict as he fillets 'disembodied' RB Leipzig

Domenico Tedesco hit out at his RB Leipzig flops as the players questioned their own attitude after slumping to a worrying defeat just days before their do or die Europa League showdown at Ibrox.

The German side went down to a 3-1 defat at the hands of 10-man Borussia Monchengladbach to leave them outside of the Champions League spots in the Bundesliga.

Mid-table Monchengladbach stunned Tedesco’s men with Jonas Hofmann netting twice and Breel Embolo and Christopher Nkunku scoring for Leipzig.

Tedesco said his side “weren’t at the races” and accused them of giving out “gifts” as they now sit behind their German Cup final opponents Freiburg in the league.

Leipzig have yet to win a major trophy in their history and with two chances this season are losing form at the wrong time as they went down to a second league loss in a row.

Tedesco slammed: “We played disembodied. If this base is missing, you can throw the tactics board in the trash can.

“We weren't at the races in the first half and didn't have any of the things that you need for a game like this. We're giving out too many gifts at an important stage of the season.

"Congratulations to Gladbach on the deserved win. We have to do our homework for the final two games of the season and win. The games will be tricky against difficult opposition, and we've also got games in other competitions. We'll give our all.”

Defender Marcel Halstenberg added: “Maybe it was an attitude issue. We're behind now, it doesn't look good.”

Fellow stopper Willi Orban, who missed the 1-0 first leg win over Gers due to suspension, said: "We didn't do a lot of the things that we set out to do before the game.

“Gladbach played well and were the better side especially in the first half. We didn't do well. We don't have many games left, so we're missing points in the Champions League fight.

"We were too hectic when trying to get the ball in the box and we wanted to do too much. We had the right intentions but you have to manage the situation better, especially when you have a man advantage. We weren't mature enough there."

"Of course it's a disappointing result for us. We have to regroup and analyse what we didn't do well today. Then it's about going into the final two games optimistically and, if possible, clinching a Champions League place."
